Rapid-onset gender dysphoria refers to the phenomenon in which a young person (child to young adult) seems to develop gender dysphoria rather rapidly, without any prior history hinting to the condition. It's been suggested that an element of social contagion is at play, similar to how eating disorders sometimes seem to spread among young female populations in a viral manner.
